CROSS-BORDER DOCTORIALS - GIRONA 2019

The LR Doctoral College is back again for a new season of cross-border Doctorials. This year's edition is co-organized with the University of Girona and will be held from October 21st to 25th at the TorreMirona Relais Hotel in Navata (Girona - Spain).
Cross-border Doctorials is a series of events jointly promoted by universities and higher education institutions of the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion. The previous edition has been held in Port Leucate in France and has enrolled the participation of about 40 PhD students from 13 nationalities from universities in the region.
The goal of the Cross-border Doctorials is to increase the employability of young PhD students in both the public and private sectors, including through their own entrepreneurship. Attendees will improve professional and social skills and will learn how to pursue their careers in companies, research centres or by setting up their own start-ups. Attendees will face a challenge that will be addressed by a multidisciplinary and international working group.
THE AIMS
+ Increasing awareness to the technology transfer and to the entrepreneurship.
+ Strengthening links between French and Spanish Universities/laboratories.
+ Highlighting the many skills of the PhD students and their creativity.
+ Increasing the professional prospects of the Doctors in Europe.
+ Discovering private and public innovative companies in France and in Spain.
THE SEMINARY : KEY MOMENTS
The programme features several challenges to be met by the participants. It is made up of:
+ Masterclass on entrepreneurial skills (leadership, teamwork, motivating, design thinking, communication).
+ Masterclass on business project (Canvas, marketing, Lean Start-up).
+ Challenges. Five challenges will be posed in order to explore business ideas and develop and present business projects:
- First challenge: Team Building.
- Second challenge: Mapping the idea’s value proposition.
- Third challenge: Producing a comprehensive Canvas including market size.
- Fourth challenge: Preparing the project presentation.
- Fifth challenge: Presenting the project before a committee.
+ Networking (meals, networking lunch on last day,...).
+ The programme is a mix of lectures and group work. Participants will put into practice in the afternoons what they will have learned in the morning lectures.
+ Two business experts will mentor and advise the teams about the best way to run their projects.
