Lycée Jean Monnet hosted the regional final of the 3 Minute Thesis Universities competition, an international contest that highlights the ability of PhD students to present their research topics in just three minutes, in English, using accessible language.
The ceremony welcomed 90 high school students specializing in English or enrolled in European sections, who attended the candidates’ presentations, along with the participants’ friends, families, and colleagues who came to support them.
The jury, composed of figures from the academic and institutional world, played a key role in evaluating the presentations. It was made up of :
- Patricia GARDIES, Department of International Relations and Francophonie at Montpellier Paul-Valéry University
- Ali HAIDAR, Winner of the 2024 edition of Three Minute Thesis at Montpellier University
- Isabelle PARROT, Vice-Presidente Delegate for Science-Society Relations at Montpellier University
- Clare HART, Vice-President for International Outreach and European Cooperation Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole
- Philip WEBBER, Vice Principal at Lycée Jean Monnet
Throughout this day rich in scientific discoveries and exchanges, the finalist PhD students from Occitanie-East universities successfully took on the challenge of scientific outreach.
This achievement is the result of five weeks of support provided by a team of coaches, Patrick SANDRAT et Lynn BLIN, who trained the candidates in public speaking, English rhetoric, and scientific outreach. We commend their dedication and commitment to preparing the PhD students.
Nancy Nalbadian, a PhD candidate in Anglophone Studies at Université Paul Valéry Montpellier 3, particularly distinguished herself by winning both the jury prize and the audience prize. Her eloquence, clarity, and ability to captivate the audience won unanimous praise from spectators and the jury.
Thanks to her jury prize victory, Nancy will represent the group at the European selections of the Coimbra Group.
